After a good performance in a British Milers Club PB Classic meeting in June, Will Perkin was invited to take part in the Peter Coe Mile at Iffley Road Oxford on Saturday. The race is part of a BMC Grand Prix meeting featuring 800m, 5000m and mile races and two invitational mile races for U15/U17s – the Peter Coe Mile for boys and Frank Horwill Mile for girls.
Will was up against last year’s winner George Elliott, and English Schools 1500m bronze medallist Danny Ray amongst other strong runners. Danny Ray ran hard from the front with the pacemaker and set up a lengthening gap. Will and George Elliott kept a good tempo and Will finished a comfortable third in a time of 4.30.14, receiving a bronze medal.
