Welcome to 2017 Race Report fans, and to this selection of festive treats! Whilst many of us will have been enjoying a well-deserved break, others have been pounding the pavements and trails, and pulling some great results out of the bag.
Chiltern Harriers’ festive Bran Tub Relay took place in mild, cloudy conditions on Sunday, using the traditional route along Devonshire Avenue, Chesham Road and Hervines Road. RESULTS
Good evening Race Report fans, I hope you have all been enjoying a peaceful weekend.
Firstly, a small apology for missing a couple of results from last week’s South of England Masters’ and Inter County Cross Country Champs. Simon Brown clocked an impressive time of 38.04 in the 10k, whilst Martyn Cartwright took part in the 70+ race, completing 6k in 38.55. Well done, both! Three records are broken.
The Hughes family clean up in two age categories!! Alex Hughes smashes the U9M record held since 2011 by Ben Smith at 3.39 finishing in a time of 3.36 Nick Hughes takes his own recent record from November 2016 by four seconds to record a new V45M record of 6.19 Trevor Brawn breaks his own V65 record of 9.13 with a new record at 9.11 Thank you to all the marshals, sweeper, hare and timekeepers - Sue Results from Round 3 Round the Town Records I hope you have all been having a lovely weekend.
May I apologise first of all for being somewhat tardy with the results of the Bedford Half Marathon, which took place last Sunday 4 December. Three Harriers took park on the fairly hilly course: Ian Lawson, who finished in 1.38.49; David Holmes – 1.58.06 and Tony Molesworth – 2.12.44. There were twenty-three Chiltern Harriers taking part for their counties at the Southern Inter Counties Cross Country Championships at Oxford Horspath on Saturday.
On a bleak, drizzly day, the races were high quality affairs with most of the best young cross country talent in the South of England taking part. Also there were a handful of Chiltern athletes taking part in the Southern Masters Championships at Horspath on Saturday, held in conjunction with the Southern Inter Counties. With December having brought a definite Winter snap to the air, we’ll kick things off with parkrun. Highest finishing Harrier of Saturday 3 December was Beth Lang, second lady in the fearsome Tring Park with a PB for the course of 26.01 in her 10th parkrun.
Chiltern Harriers had another good day at the third Chiltern Cross Country League fixture at Stopsley Park, Luton on Saturday. It was a pleasant sunny day and firm, mostly flat courses made for some fast racing conditions.
There was a good turnout of 76 across the age groups as Chiltern were fourth on the day and consolidated third place in the league. As with the first two matches, the opening races saw great performances from Chiltern’s Under 11 and Under 13 athletes. Several Chiltern Harriers athletes were taking part for Dr Challoner’s Grammar School and Dr Challoner’s High School at the English Schools Cross Country Cup Final at Formby on Merseyside on Saturday.
The competition features four races, Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Intermediate Boys, and Intermediate Girls, each with 24 schools from around England – three schools from each of eight regions. Good evening Race Report fans. This week’s edition comes live from the sunny West Midlands. Sadly, due to technical issues, I fear I may be missing some results, so please do email them to me if that is the case.
