Have a good Christmas - Sue and Brian
Chiltern Harriers’ festive Bran Tub Relay race took place from Hervines Park, Amersham on Sunday morning.
The race, which includes runners of all ages, features five athletes in a team - each of whom complete a 1450m circuit involving Devonshire Avenue, Chesham Road and Hervines Road. Each team has a captain who tackles two separate laps. Conditions were unusually mild and dry and the good weather brought out some fast times from the athletes.
Just under sixty runners turned up and the race comprised eleven teams, each containing a mixture of teenagers, primary school runners, and the odd parent. Teams are selected to try and make them as even as possible. Each team name is derived from the colour of their baton and the winning team this year was Will Perkin’s ‘Black’ team who completed the six laps in an impressive 29.57.
Will’s first lap of 3.59 appears to be a course record and his final lap of 4.06 was second fastest of the day. The team was completed by Oakley Denson (5.31), Rachel Padwick (4.51), Mimi Houlihan-Burne (5.29), and Ellie Shield (6.01). In second place was Jonty Wager-Leigh’s ‘Orange’ team with 30.33 featuring Jonty (4.10/4.25), Orla Fawcett (5.01), Ilyas Ahmed (5.11), Holly Grant (6.07) and Max Baxter (5.39). Third team across the line was Nick Hughes’s ‘Stripes’ team in 30.46 with Nick (4.12/4.22), Emily Alderson (5.04), Abi Askey (6.01), Holly Henderson (5.34), and Tim Lomax (5.33).
Other fast times occurred on the opening lap with Harry Kettle (4.11), Richard Slade (4.14), Rob Hall (4.15), Will Brown (4.16), Sam Howell (4.27) Seb Mills (4.29), Jake Alderson (4.30) and Will Alderson (4.59) all showing good form. The fastest female laps came from Scarlett Wager-Leigh (4.46), Rachel Padwick (4.51) Sophie Morton (5.01), Orla Fawcett (5.01), Emily Alderson (5.04), Soraya Lockwood (5.06) and Maddy Lacey (5.07).
The best primary school times came from Matt Aldred (5.20), Oakley Denson (5.31) and Tim Lomax (5.33) for the boys and Abbie Henderson (5.27), Holly Henderson (5.33) and Rosa Williams (5.41) for the girls.
