Simon and Hugh Beedell, not strictly Chiltern Harriers AC athletes, showed some stunning performances in the Bristol Half Marathon on Saturday 12th September. Simon finished 24th in 1.12.53 and brother Hugh in 1.37.40.
Much further south husband and wife team Jason and Carolynn Trimmer were taking part in the Jungfrau-Marathon in Switzerland on the same day. The Jungfrau is reputed to be the most beautiful marathon course in the world, taking competitors through spectacular scenery between Interlaken and the finish on Kleine Schneidegg and no less than 1829m of climb. Jason (M45) finished in a very respectable 4.33.45 and Carolynn in 5.56.23.
Sunday 13th September marked one of the highlight days of the British road running calendar – Great North Run Day. Three Chiltern Harriers AC athletes made the trip north. Dave Howells completed the half marathon in 1.47.39; Sue Mallett in 2.26.30 and Yee-King Tham in 2.32.24. Well done guys!
At Dorney Lake David Walker (M40-44) of Chiltern Tri was in action in a duathlon event (5km Run, 21.2km Bike, 2.5km Run), where he clocked a total time of 1.13.14.
... And finally! Sunday 13th September also marked the day when Trevor 'The Pirate' Poole joined the elite ranks of 'IronMen'. Trevor completed his first ever IronMan in Pembrokeshire, Wales, on a course that features one of the toughest bike / run courses, not to mention a spectacular (if freezing, presumably?!) open-water swim from Tenby Beach. Trevor clocked the following times: 2.4 miles swim - 01.48.56; 112 miles bike - 07.22.30; 26.2 miles run - 04.11.59, giving him a total time of 13.57.43. If those efforts were not enough, Trevor is also raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support - a really worthy cause. He is currently just over £700 off his target, help him reach it here.
