I hope you all had a good start to the week. Apologies for this later-than-usual edition of Race Report. Neil and I were hanging out in a field in Herefordshire and wifi was not forthcoming.
We’ll kick off with parkrun, as per tradition. Matt Robins was the first Harrier home in Black Park on Saturday 13 August, with a time of 24.12. He was joined by Tim Dawson – 24.56; Matt Channer – 24.56; Rosemary Davenport – 27.42; Sam Meldrum (accompanied by Josiah) in 35.51 and Ian Lawson – 37.27. At Wycombe Rye Matthew Clifford finished his 10th parkrun with a new PB of 21.02, joining him was Philip Lewis – 27.52. Doug King took part at Gadebridge for the first time, finishing in 27.54. Tom and Rachel Ayres were in action over in Norfolk at the Fritton Lake parkrun, clocking times of 24.57 and 26.29. Neil and I very much enjoyed our cross country course in Newent, near the Forest of Dean. I was first lady in 21.16 and Neil came in 22.59. At Northala Fields, David Breingan had a strong run, finishing in 20.07. Justin Fowler topped the positions in Tring park, which he had not run before, in a very speedy 19.03. He was joined by: Peter Gould – 21.04; Scarlett Wager-Leigh – 22.1 and Mark Fry – 26.11. Finally, Lyn Mellor was the only Harrier in action in Cassiobury Park, where she managed a new PB of 23.03.
Inspired by the kickoff of the athletics in Rio, Andrew Stewart was on the track at the Milton Keynes open on Sunday 14 August. He raced in the 100m and 800m, clocking times of 15.4 and 2.41.6. If you too are inspired by Team GB’s success in the athletics stadium, why not join us to give track and field a go on Saturday 20 August, in the last of the Southern Athletics League meets in Watford.
Elsewhere, other Chiltern Harriers were running on the roads on Sunday. Neil Brown was the first of those home in the Bearbrook 10k, finishing in a very respectable 39.49. Kate Loach achieved her best Bearbrook result, and was 3rd FV45 in 43.53, as well as receiving a Buckinghamshire Championship silver medal. David Saul clocked 46.27; Barbara Ralph was first FV55 in 47.45 and Tamsin Finch finished in 58.52. At Burnham Beeches Mike ‘Tiny’ Turney was 3rd in the 10k and 1st in his age category, in an impressive 39.27. Joining him in the 10k were: Paul Pearce (48.51); Frank Harris (1.02.15) and Sue Bree (1.13.31). There was a number of PBs for Harriers in the half marathon race at Burnham. Matt Robins finished in 1.35.31; Tim Dawson – 1.36.24; Ian Lawson – 1.38.07; Matt Channer – 1.47.47 and Rik Edwards – 1.57.13. Well done everyone!
