Chiltern Harriers AC athletes took part in a real variety of parkrun events on Saturday 19th September, although not in their usual numbers (presumably with the Shardeloes 10k to look forward to on the Sunday). Allan Stewart, last year’s victor at Shardeloes, took part in the Exeter event and was rewarded with a PB of 16.10. In Black Park Matthew Robins (SM30-34) reached a parkrun ton, finishing his 100th event in 20.51. Ian Lawson (WM45-49), also a veteran of the events, finished his 96th in 22.47. At Wycombe Rye Guy Johnson (VM55-59) and Tom Ayres (VM35-39) achieved times of 22.21 and 25.38, respectively, and in Tring Mark Fry (VM50-54) and Matt Channer (VM35-39) finished in 25.57 and 27.40.
Elsewhere on Saturday 19th Shardeloes 10k Race Director Nick Marsh was evidently warming up for the event, by taking part in the Run Through 10k, hosted at Lee Valley Velo Park. Nick (V35) did fantastically to clock another sub-40 time, finishing 7th overall in 38.17.
Two of our Chiltern Harriers AC ladies were running through the hours of darkness on Saturday 19th. The first of those, Natalie Baker, was taking part in the Thames Trail Half-Marathon, organised by ‘Saturday Night Marathon’. These events take place throughout the Summer, following an out and back route from Wokingham Waterside Centre in Reading. The half marathon is limited to 40 runners, who set off at 8pm and complete two laps of the course. Nat, who is building up to the New York City Marathon, did fantastically to finish 9th overall, 2nd lady, with a time of 1.52.22.
The second ‘crazy lady’ was Ali Young, who as many of you will know, was competing in the Self-Transcendence 24 Hour race held at the athletics track at Tooting Bec. Ali finished 2nd overall (to another lady athlete), completing 135.2 miles over the 24 hour period and thus smashing the GB qualifying standard of 130 miles. Moreover, Ali has also successfully raised £1000 for the Chesham-based charity Arctic One. Please do help her to raise more for this really worthwhile cause, which enables disabled athletes to train and compete. To sponsor her and to find out more about Arctic One, take a look here.
On Sunday 20th September Isabelle Winter (F45) and husband Richard took part in the Leighton 10 Mile Road Race. Isabelle and Richard finished together in 1.42.46.
