On Wednesday 8th July Isabelle Winter (W65) and Paula Walker (W55) took part in the final of the three Langley Park 5k races. Isabelle finished in 27.44, Paula in 30.07, with Paula actually having completed all three of this Summer’s events.
Saturday 11th July also saw 5k PBs in parkrun events. Martin Allen (VM55-59) earned himself one for a 24.17 performance at Cassiobury Park, as did: Grant Whitaker (VM50-54) – 21.36 at Tring; Richard Lloyd (VM50-54) – 25.19 and Sue Stewart (VW55-59) – 29.20, both at Wycombe Rye.
Further Chiltern results from Saturday parkruns: Mike Worsfold (VM40-44) and William Barnett (SM25-29) in 20.30 and 31.01, respectively at Black Park; Matthew Channer (VM35-39) – 26.55 at Tring and Tom Ayres (VM35-39) and Philip Lewis (VM70-74) – 26.59 and 30.13, respectively at Wycombe Rye.
In quite a different type of event Yours Truly and David Bellamy were running 50k through the beautiful and undulating Chiltern hills. The Chiltern ‘Intro’ Ultra Challenge was run for the second year, taking in some fantastic views during a fully marked-out circular route from Princes Risborugh School. I finished 3rd lady in my first attempt at an ultra distance (5.22.29) and David completed the race in 6.33.20. Both of us really thoroughly enjoyed the race, which was extremely well organised and would recommend this to any fellow Harriers who fancy a go at something beyond the marathon distance.
On Sunday 12th July Kingsley Nanton (V40) was the only Chiltern Harrier to take part in the NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon. Kingsley clocked a fantastic time of 1.29.50. Well done!
In High Wycombe in the hilly, ‘not a PB’ Wycombe 10k and Half the gold rush continued to flow for Mike Turney, Sandra Reynolds and Kate Loach. Due to an oversight, Your Humble Reporter failed to mention that all three earned themselves 1st place in their respective categories last Sunday at the Bushey 10k. They repeated the feat in Wycombe. Mike (V50) was 1st in his category in the 10k in 41.27 as was Sandra (V40) – 42.42. Sandra was also 1st lady overall! In the Half Kate Loach was 1st in the V50 ladies race in a fantastic 1.41.54 and Alistair Melville-Smith may well also have won his category, finishing 6th overall in 1.21.54. Rik Edwards (V50) was also in action in the Wycombe Half, completing the race in 2.01.45.
Finally, Chiltern Tri athletes were also taking part in the Stowe Triathlon. In the Standard Distance event Tessa Passey and Joanne Murray finished in 3.39.37 and 4.21.56, respectively. Trevor Lee Poole, a Chiltern Harrier and Pirate took part in the Middle Distance Tri, completing it in 5.35.31.
Thank you to all Chiltern Harriers who helped with the Junior Tri on Sunday 12th July. Report to follow, for full results see here.
