A cool, still evening provided good conditions for middle distance runners on Wednesday. There were some great performances, and a huge proportion of PBs, by Chiltern Harriers athletes of all ages over 400m and 800m.
In the 400m Race 1, veterans Katarzyna Walsh and Andrew Stewart took part, Katarzyna (V35) running 68.40, with Andrew (V50) recording 70.80. Senior Man Ash Holmes won race 2 with 61.35 and two youngsters made their debut in the event; U15 Harry Russell running 64.31 and U17 Jess Orr 70.02. Race 3 saw a strong run from U17 Hannah Thear to record 59.74
800m – Race 1
Katarzyna Walsh came back to run 2.46.46 in Race 1. She had three U13s for company – Matt Clifford running 2.46.07, Robert Orr 2.47.47 (PB), and Millie Hughes 2.49.03 (PB).
Race 2
First year U13s Orla Willams and Laura Williams both gained PBs with 2.39.03 and 2.42.87 respectively
Race 3
Alex Aldred was another U13 setting PB figures with 2.32.69.
Race 4
Back-in-form U15 girl Sandie Pohlman looked strong in winning this one in a new best of 2.26.61. U17 Maddy Lacey also set a new best with 2.31.16 but Orla Fawcett was outside her best with 2.36.65 and Andrew Stewart ran a season’s best of 2.37.38.
Race 5
First year U15 Tommy Davies ran a PB of 2.26.86.
Race 6
Vet 45 Nick Hughes was a fraction off his time of a month ago to be second in 2.15.61. Ash Holmes came in with 2.27.96.
Race 7
U13 Angus Williams continued his great season with another PB of 2.20.57, putting him 15th in the national rankings.
Race 8
A highlight of the evening came in this one with U17 Scarlett Wager-Leigh taking four seconds off her PB to record an English Schools qualifying time of 2.16.80.
Race 10
U17 Seb Mills ran strongly to post PB figures of 2.08.81 to be second in Race 10.
Race 11
This saw the second Chiltern win of the night with U20 Callum Neal logging 2.07.09.
Race 14
U20 Jonty Wager-Leigh held on to the lead off a strong second lap to record a great new PB of 1.58.84 in winning Race 14.
Race 15
In the final race of the evening U17 Will Perkin had a great run to finish runner-up in a new best of 1.56.26, another English Schools qualifying performance.
BMC
Earlier in the evening U20 James McCarthy took part in the British Miler’s Club Gold Standard meeting. In the 1500m A race James set a season’s best of 3.53.98, well inside the English Schools qualifying mark.
