Congratulations first of all to Andy Wiseall Pip Haris and Tom Powell, who all took part in Ride London today.
It’s been a very quiet week in Race Report world, it seems.
Congratulations first of all to Andy Wiseall Pip Haris and Tom Powell, who all took part in Ride London today. James McCarthy continued his good form with an 800m bronze medal in the UKCAU Inter Counties Senior Championships which doubles up as the England Athletics Senior Championships.
At Bedford on July 29th James was in the third and final heat of the 800m and qualified as a fastest loser in 1.52.35. The final saw a great run from James to secure two medals, one for the Inter Counties and one for the EA Championships to be third in 1.50.69. BMC Regional Races - Oxford
Angus Williams and sister Orla (both in the U15 age group) both scored excellent 1500m PBs at the BMC Regional meeting at Iffley Road, Oxford on July 29th. In Race D Angus was second to log a new best of 4.11.0. In the Mixed Race G Orla took a win and knocked of 2.5 second off her best to run 4.46.9. Several Chiltern Harriers U13s took part in this high quality inter-county match at Kingston on Thames on July 29th. For many it was their first taste of inter county track competition.
A solid South Bucks team finished the YDL Upper Age Group season off well with fourth place, after making the long journey to Poole in Dorset at the end of July.
That was enough to secure second place overall for the season. School’s out! But no rest for Race Report.
5k action started early this week, with the annual Waddesdon Manor 5k – a hotly-competed, hilly race. Chiltern’s international athlete Fabe Downs was victorious in a time of 15.50, joined by David Breingan in 20.14. t’s another super sporty weekend, with the British Grand Prix just kicking off, Wimbledon final and, more importantly, some epic Harriers performances in races both short and (very) long.
Starting at the short end of the scale, Allan Stewart was the fastest parkrunning Harrier of the day on Saturday 15 July, scooping up 1st place at Cassiobury Park in a time of 15.51, whilst young Lesedi Nkoane was 1st female in a PB time of 20.24 (an age grading of 83.66%, actually higher than Allan’s). Lesedi was joined by her mum Bex (20.25) and by Lyn Mellor (23.27). Chiltern Harriers won Match 4 of the Youth Development League Lower Age Group to clinch the Southern Central 1 Division title on Saturday at Hemel Hempstead.
In grey, drizzly conditions, the Chiltern U13s and U15s won their third match of the campaign to close an excellent season. The match finished with Chiltern on 624 points, St Mary’s Richmond on 547, and Wycombe Phoenix on 539.5 in third. The League comprises eight clubs from Victoria Park in East London to Vale of Aylesbury in the west. Another perfect evening of warm temperatures, sunshine and light wind allowed fast times at Watford on Wednesday.
