A small group of Chiltern Harriers kept their track seasons going, having been selected to compete for Buckinghamshire in the Southern Inter County Championships at Oxford Horspath that includes both Under 15 and Under 20 age groups.
Cameron Reid, Angus Williams and Alex Aldred were the three Chiltern Harriers taking part in the England Athletics U15 and U17 Championships at Bedford last weekend.
This a prestigious event, with only the English Schools Championships being of more importance to young athletes in the track calendar.
A small group of Chiltern Harriers athletes put in some stellar performances at the Southern U15/U17 Championships at Crystal Palace at the weekend.
Of the five athletes competing four came home with top-three finishes. Mild, still weather provided good conditions for the middle distance runners taking part.
James McCarthy continued his good form with an 800m bronze medal in the UKCAU Inter Counties Senior Championships which doubles up as the England Athletics Senior Championships.
At Bedford on July 29th James was in the third and final heat of the 800m and qualified as a fastest loser in 1.52.35.
The final saw a great run from James to secure two medals, one for the Inter Counties and one for the EA Championships to be third in 1.50.69.
BMC Regional Races - Oxford
Angus Williams and sister Orla (both in the U15 age group) both scored excellent 1500m PBs at the BMC Regional meeting at Iffley Road, Oxford on July 29th.
In Race D Angus was second to log a new best of 4.11.0. In the Mixed Race G Orla took a win and knocked of 2.5 second off her best to run 4.46.9.
Several Chiltern Harriers U13s took part in this high quality inter-county match at Kingston on Thames on July 29th. For many it was their first taste of inter county track competition.
A solid South Bucks team finished the YDL Upper Age Group season off well with fourth place, after making the long journey to Poole in Dorset at the end of July.
That was enough to secure second place overall for the season.
Chiltern Harriers won Match 4 of the Youth Development League Lower Age Group to clinch the Southern Central 1 Division title on Saturday at Hemel Hempstead.
In grey, drizzly conditions, the Chiltern U13s and U15s won their third match of the campaign to close an excellent season. The match finished with Chiltern on 624 points, St Mary’s Richmond on 547, and Wycombe Phoenix on 539.5 in third. The League comprises eight clubs from Victoria Park in East London to Vale of Aylesbury in the west.
Another perfect evening of warm temperatures, sunshine and light wind allowed fast times at Watford on Wednesday.
