At the English Schools Cross Country Championships at Norwich on Saturday, Angus Williams and Jane Williamson finished in the top eight in their races to earn call ups for the England team to face Wales, Scotland and Ireland in an international match at Port Talbot next Saturday.
Angus and Jane were amongst fourteen Harriers running for their county schools teams in the championships, which were held at a showery and blustery Norwich Showground.
Angus was in the Junior Boys race, second event of the day, on a flat and fast 4k circuit. From 345 finishers Angus, representing Buckinghamshire Schools, was always well up but had to summon up reserves to finish eighth, just inside the qualifying group for the international. Tom Job also ran well for 33rd and third Bucks scorer, but Alex Aldred had to drop out after a week of illness.
The Inter Girls race saw Robyn Watkins 107th for Berkshire Schools and Emily Alderson 278th running for Herts Schools. The Inter Boys race saw Ben Smith 102nd for Berkshire Schools and Tommy Davies 291st for Bucks Schools.
In the Senior Girls race Lizzie Barraclough was 256th for Bucks Schools and the Senior Boys saw Richard Slade 96th (third Bucks), Harry Cox 192nd (fourth Bucks), and Will Brown 206th (fifth Bucks).
Angus and Jane travel to Wales on Friday and have two nights away. Both are relishing the prospect of international duty.
