Several Chiltern Harriers young athletes took part for their schools in the Herts Schools Championships at Verulamiam Park, St Albans last Saturday.
In the Year 6 Boys race Jamie Powell came a creditable 10th from a big field of 146. An even bigger race of 158 faced the starter in the Year 5 Boys race and Leon Doran ran well for 4th with John Broadis well paced in 19th. Sam Howell was 9th in the Senior Boys race.
Carys Arnold had a good run for 11th in the Pre-Junior (Year 7) Girls race. The Junior Girls race saw great runs from Jane Williams on in third and Ella Peters in seventh. Emily Alderson was 9th in the Intermediate Girls race and Mimi Houlihan-Burne was eighth in the Senior Girls.
South East Schools Cross Country Championships
Ben Smith in the Intermediate Boys and Robyn Watkins for the Intermediate Girls took part for Berkshire Schools in the high quality South-East Schools Cross Country Championships at Brands Hatch, Kent last Saturday.
The event is contested between some of the strongest counties - Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Hampshire, Essex and Berkshire. Robyn was back on her best form to be 11th and fourth Berkshire scorer in the Inter Girls race. Ben was also fourth Berkshire scorer in 19th place in the Inter Boys. Both have been offered places in the Berkshire Schools team at the English Schools Championships in Norwich on March 18th.
