At the U13 and U15 Open Meeting at Lee Valley on Feb 11th Gabi Riley, Jemma Thomson and James Spicer all took part. Under 13 Gabi gained PBs of 10.53 in the 60m hurdles and 1.20m in the high jump, and was just off her long jump PB with 4.05m. Jemma ran a PB of 8.75 in the 60m and was slightly outside PBs with 30.48 in 200m and 3.92m in the long jump.
In the Under 15 events James restricted himself to 200m and gained a PB of 25.25.
On Feb 14th Lee Valley hosted an open graded middle distance meeting with Allan Stewart, Hannah Thear and Cameron Reid all in action. Allan was running 1500m and was off his season’s best with 4.03.52. Cameron was in Race 12 of 14 in the 800m, and won the race with a new indoor PB of 1.58.56. This puts Cam sixth in the U17 National rankings and he goes to the National Championships next weekend aiming for the final. U23 Hannah ran in Race 3 and had a good outing running 2.28.57.
At Sheffield on Feb 16th Will Perkin was in action in Sheffield in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Indoor Championships, competing for Bath University. Running 800m, Will was in one of nine heats, the qualifying for the following day’s semis being the heat winner plus 15 fastest losers.
Will ran 1.57.20 to win his heat. On Saturday the four semis’ progression was the winner plus two fastest losers to make Sunday’s final. Will was in the fourth race which turned out to be the fastest. Although in contention for most of the race, Will faded to fifth in 1.55.60. His time was the 9th fastest of the 24 semi-finalists.
