At the (very) long end of the scale, Neil Bates took part in his first ever ultra running event on Saturday 1 September – the St Alban’s Stampede. Neil overcame a couple of tough spots (and more than 3000ft of elevation) to complete around 44 miles in eight and a half hours – a great achievement.
Today, Sunday 2 September, a number of Harriers were in action in the Bovingdon 10k event, organised by Bovingdon Council. Official results not yet available, so Strava ones included below. Apologies if anyone has been missed. Aran Davidson continued his winning streak, coming home with first place, a PB and what appears to be a chopping board from the photos – in a time of 34.28. Joining Aran were: Jon Taylor (39.49); Matt ‘the medal’ Robins (41.53); Ed Wright (44.09); Matt Lawrence (45.07); Matt Channer (45.49); Ruth Holroyd (55.01); Tamsin Finch (56.46) and Julia Aliaj, who though not officially entered, was allowed to run round on the day (49.18). Good work guys!
There was also local half marathon action today. In Maidenhead Ali Young returned to racing after a short break (official results still pending), joined by Dave Howells in 1.35.27 and Miriam Kempson with a new half marathon PB of 1.57.29 (both Strava times). Not too far away in the opposite direction, Mairead O’Rourke completed the Bedford Half in 1.35.39. And carrying on slightly further in that direction, Nick Hughes was in action in the St Neots Triathlon (standard distance - 1500m swim / 45km bike / 10km run), completing the whole event in a time of 2.17.29. Nick was also the 3rdfastest in the 10k run, in an impressive 33.01.
And finally, at the Woking AC Open Callum Powell came 2ndin the U11 600m in a tightly fought race, missing out by just two seconds to the winner, but nonetheless earning himself a PB of 1.53.58.
