We’ll kick things off with the results from the first ever Humanity Direct Amersham Ultra, held on Saturday 11 March. Organised by local race organiser XNRG, whose Founder/ Director Neil Thubron is a former Harrier, the event saw just over 100 runners complete 31 miles on local trails, starting and finishing from Challoner’s School in Amersham.
Saturday 11 March was a comparative quiet day for parkrunning for Harriers, but with some great times thrown in. Nick Hancock, who is working up to his marathon debut in Brighton, went under 20 minutes for the first time in Hartlepool, with a time of 19.36. Closer to home, Mike Worsfold repeated his first place at South Oxhey parkrun, completing the course in 21.29. At Rickmansworth, David Breingan was first home in a time of 20.41. He was joined by: David Saul – 22.52 (PB); Robert Gill – 25.07; Ruth Holroyd – 26.02; Steve Boyden-Wilson – 26.38 (PB); Lily Gregory – 26.58; Sarah Gregory – 27.18 (PB) and Howard Cave – 33.43 (PB). In Tring Scarlett Wager-Leigh clocked 23.17 and was followed home by: Matt Channer – 24.09 (equaling his Tring PB); Sebastian Lawrence – 26.48; Matt Lawrence – 27.09 and Jane Heasman – 42.50. Rachel Ayres led the Harriers home at Wycombe Rye, with a time of 26.52, joined by: Tom Ayres – 27.45 and Philip Lewis – 29.55. Catherine Staunton and Paula Walker were at Black Park, where they clocked times of 24.46 and 29.52, respectively. Others running closer or further from home included: Joe Cochrane (21.02 in Leamington); Mairead O’Rourke (an impressive 21.28 and 2nd lady, with buggy, in St Albans); Matt Robins (22.21 in Lymington, New Forest); Tim Dawson (23.04 in Chrzanow, Poland) and Lyn Mellow (23.55 in Cassiobury Park).
It seems one trip to Black Park on Saturday was not quite enough for Paula Walker, as she and Sue Bree competed in the first ever ‘Dash in the Dark’ – a 10k evening trail run organised by Datchet Dashers. Paula finished in 1.10.14 and Sue in1.25.41.
Sunday 12 March saw Allan Stewart, Neil Bates, Tom Powell, Aran Davidson and Gemma Stockwell in racing round the track at Silverstone in the Adidas Half Marathon. Official results: Allan - 1.13.25 (an incredible 3rd place!); Aran – 1.29.18; Neil – 1.34.54; Tom (straight off the back of a week’s skiing) – 1.41.48; Gemma - 2.35.29. In Bledlow Ridge Lisa Taylor was (I think) the only Harrier attempting the half marathon distance, which she completed in 1.59.39 (5th lady), whilst Jay Grigon completed the 10k in 52.10. Results for the Finchley 20 are, as yet, unavailable.
