With the cross country and Indoor athletics seasons finished, several Chiltern Harriers youngsters have been competing in outdoor track meetings.
At a very damp Welwyn at the Herts Phoenix Good Friday meeting, U17 Alex Johnson and U15 Woody Jackson made excellent debuts over 3000m, with Alex running 9.46.6 and Woody 9.52.2.
At Bracknell on Saturday new Under 15 recruit Finn Hobson tackled 100m, 200m and high jump. PBs resulted in all three events with 12.35, 25.42 and 1.50m respectively. Also in the U15s Nathan Hackley got his season underway with a PB of 2.13.44 in 800m.
Under 13s Jamie Powell and Isaac Jessop-Tranter were also in action. Jamie ran 1000m and was a very good third in a good time of 3.15.65. Isaac ran 600m in 1.54.36, 100m in 15.29 and reached 3.03m in long jump. In the Under 11s Lily Jessop-Tranter ran 75m (12.1), 150m (24.8) and 600m (2.07.47).
At the first of the Wednesday Watford Opens several Chiltern youngsters were in action. In the sprints U13 Jemma Thomson ran 14.08 for 100m (PB) and 29.29 for 200m. U15 Tara Offside ran 14.30 for 100m and 29.66 for 200m. John Broadis made his U13 debut with 14.49 for 100m, 30.80 for 200m, and 3.94m in long jump.
The middle distance runners all tackled 1500m. In Race 2 Under 15 Charlie Stone made an assured track debut winning the race in 4.54.83. First year U13 Lesedi Nkoane looked impressive running 5.17.53, as did fellow debutant Alfie Clifford in 5.24.65.
In Race 3 U15 Nathan Sweeney was also track racing for the first time, third in a solid 5.09.88. Race 5 saw U17 Matt Clifford run a big PB of 4.51.30. In the same race, U13 debutant Leon Doran raced very well to log a great time of 5.02.67. Race 6 saw a runaway PB victory for in-form U17 Alex Johnson with 4.28.33 and Race 7 featured a PB of 4.35.05 from Nathan Hackley. Woody Jackson bagged a PB of 4.44.25 in Race 8.
