Before we go too far into this weekend’s racing, a quick mention for Andrew Stewart, who earnt himself a gold and silver in the 200m and 800m, respectively, at an indoor Veterans Athletics Club event last Sunday at Lee Valley. The 800m was an indoor PB of 2.37. Good work!
Moving on to parkrun news. For those who have not yet seen, a new local parkrun is starting on 4 March at the Rickmansworth Aquadrome. I’m sure the event will be well-supported by CHAC. Yesterday, Ali Young was first lady at Birkenhead with a time of 19.26, whilst Michael Day continued his excellent run of performance as the fastest Harrier of the day with a time of 18.42 at Black Park. Joining him at Black Park were: Ian Lawson – 23.20; Robert Gill – 24.20; Steve Boyden-Wilson with a PB of 25.33; Shaheen Dent – 29.30 and Miriam Kempson – 30.06. Cassiobury Park was witness to a number of Harriers PBs yesterday: Aran Davidson – 19.01; Ella Peters – 21.45 and Gemma Stockwell – 27.24. Lyn Mellor ran a respectable 23.44. Mike ‘Tiny’ Turney ran his fastest ever time for the Wycombe Rye event, finishing 4th in 18.52. Joining him were: Andrew Stewart – 21.15; Dave Howells – 21.35 and Philip Lewis – 30.41. Jane Heasman bettered her previous time at Tring, finishing in 26.51. Also completing the challenging course was Tara Deller-Hoy – 35.38.
Presumably due to a bit of half term tourism (amongst other reasons) there were a good number of parkrun ‘singletons’ out in action: Nat Baker clocked 27.11 in Leeds (Woodhouse Moor); Beth Lang – 24.02 in Romford (Raphael); Louise Durman – 19.07 and 2nd lady in Roundhay (also Leeds); Leon Doran – 21.42 at Gadebridge; Neil Bates – 19.52 in Aylesbury; Hugh Beedell – 21.35 at Brentwood (the event was won by brother Simon, representing Woodford Green); Peter Gould – 31.27 at Pomphrey Hill in Bristol; Neil Brown – 19.35 at Exeter and Jay Grigson – 22.01 at Conwy,
Today, Sunday 19 February, Jonathan Clarke did the Hillingdon Half Marathon, with a Strava time of 1.49.34. David Breingan took part in the annual Bramley 20 mile marathon warm-up with an impressive strava time of 2.26.58.
And finally, a number of Harriers took the plunge on one of my favourite races – the Hardwick X-Stream. Official results literally just in: a storming result for Andy Wiseall, 5th senior male and 11th overall in 40.08; Neil Brown was chasing him in 40.46; Dave Williams – 43.26; Susan Jarman – 45.23; Giles Greenhalgh – 48.09; David Saul – 49.41; Helen Cholawo – 49.54; Julia Aliaj – 52.03 and Ian Turner – 59.38.
