Parkrun supremacy; UTMB; Sydney City2Surf; Headington 5 & the VAC Champs: August Bank Holiday Race Report
This weekend is one of those where I am delighted to be able to write about a whole variety of different events which Chiltern Harriers AC athletes have been taking part in. However, to kick things off we’ll take a step back in time and a step down under. On Sunday 14 August Tony Molesworth took part in the Sydney City2Surf whilst on holiday. Described as the ‘world’s fun run’, it takes runners on a 14km course from Sydney city centre and ending on Bondi Beach, where there are always plenty of surfers to entertain you. The winning time of 41 minutes was posted by the Australian cross-country champion; Tony was really pleased to finish in the top 40%, 44th out of 387 MVet 70-79.
Angus Williams and Cameron Reid completed their impressive track seasons at the prestigious England Athletics U15/U17 Championships at Bedford on August 27th.
Angus ran in a straight final of the U15 Boys 3000 metres and ran a well-paced race to finish sixth from the seventeen finishers. His time was a new PB of 9.34.76.
Cameron Reid was in the heats of the 800m and ran well to log 2.11.09. This brought Cam in eighth, not enough to reach the final.
Three Chiltern Harriers were taking part for Buckinghamshire at the Southern Inter Counties Under 15 Championships at Horspath on Sunday.
The weekend of 20 – 21 August 2016 was a quiet one for Chiltern Harriers AC athletes. On Saturday 20 August a few of us went to see whether we were Olympians-in-the-making, taking part in the final Southern Athletics League Match of the 2016 season in Watford. Official results note yet available, but well done to all who took part – Andrew Stewart, Neil Brown, Nick Hughes, Tamsin Finch, Fiona Calder, Angela Hughes, Sue Bree, Barbara Ralph, Martyn Cartwright, me and a second Ellie (I am sorry, I don’t know your surname!).
I hope you all had a good start to the week. Apologies for this later-than-usual edition of Race Report. Neil and I were hanging out in a field in Herefordshire and wifi was not forthcoming.
Race Reporters! Are you raring for Rio?! If you are, why not try out your track (and field) legs at the final fixture of the Southern Athletics League on 20 August at Watford? You don’t need to be Mo, just have a Go. (Take a look at Doug’s Report and results from the last fixture to get an idea of the standard.)
