Race Report 12 - 13th September: Dorney Lake Tris, parkrun, Jungfrau Marathon, Bristol Half & The Great North Run
I’d like to begin this week’s edition of ‘Race Report’ with a belated mention from last week. Three Chiltern Harriers were in action at Dorney Lake on Sunday 6th September. James Repper led the way finishing a fabulous 14th in the Olympic distance. Nick Hughes competing in his first triathlon finished 54th in the Sprint distance. Millie Hughes completed a superb triathlon season by winning her Tristar 2 event which is her 4th victory of the season. Well done all!
This slightly belated Bank Holiday race report brings a great range of results for Chiltern Harriers AC runners from across the locality.
It was very much a family affair for the parkrun at Black Park this week on Saturday 1st August. Team Baxter had some fantastic performances to its credit: Francesca (JW10) did her first parkrun in 23.48; brother Maximillian (JM10) got a new PB of 23.49; Gill (VW40-44) finished in 26.43 and George (VM45-49) – in 30.22 (his first parkrun). Mum and daughter team Rebecca (VW40-44) and Lesedi (JW10) Nkoane pushed each other home to finish their first parkrun in 27.31. Regular readers will recall that Lesedi won her race at the Junior Triathlon recently, showing that Chiltern Harriers AC has a real contender in-the-making! Ali Young (VW40-44) maintained her strong parkrun record at Black Park, finishing 13th with a time of 19.45. Also joining Ali and Teams Baxter and Nkoane were Scott Getley (VM40-44) – 21.51 and Trevor Brawn (VM65-59) – 25.16.
(Belated) Frome Half Marathon, parkruns, Windsor Great Park 10k, Down Tow, Up Flow Half & Cotswold 24 Hour Relay - Weekend Race Report
I’m going to start this week’s report with a short apology and a big congratulations to Andy Hickman, who has some excellent recent results to his name and which were missed from previous reports. Andy took part in the Standard Chartered Great City 5k Race on 9th July, clocking an excellent time of 18.59 (an especially impressive result if you consider that due to the tube strike Andy had already run a fair part of his commute that day in any case!). Last weekend on 19th July Andy finished 27th and 6th in his age category in the Frome Half Marathon, with a time of 1.27.51.
Waddesdon Manor 5k, parkruns, Fix Addiction 10k, Endure 12/50, Great London Run & The Run Wexham 5 - Weekend Race Report 18 - 19 July
Wednesday 15th July saw Chiltern Harriers AC represented by just Mike Turney (V50) in the very challenging Waddesdon Manor 5k race. Mike did excellently to finish 33rd in 19.30.
Once again we have seen Chiltern Harriers AC athletes participating in a real mix of events over the past week and achieving some great results.
On Wednesday 8th July Isabelle Winter (W65) and Paula Walker (W55) took part in the final of the three Langley Park 5k races. Isabelle finished in 27.44, Paula in 30.07, with Paula actually having completed all three of this Summer’s events.
Weekend Report 4th - 5th July: parkruns, Black Country Half, Bushey 10k, The Saunders Lakeland Mountain Marathon & The Ridgeway Relay
The hot weather that marked the start of July did not put Chiltern Harrier AC athletes off competing over the weekend 4th – 5th July.
Saturday 4th July saw a really strong turn-out for parkrun events. At Black Park no less than 11 (!) Harriers, both older and younger, were in action. Mike Worsfold (VM40-44) led them home in 20.37. He was followed by a whole contingent of junior runners, who put in stunning (and often PB-worthy) performances: Abbie Henderson (JW10) – a PB of 22.31; Holly Henderson (JW10) – a PB of 22.49; Maddie Hughes (JW10) – 23.55; Maximillian Baxter (JM10), who finished his first ever parkrun in 24.47 and Alexander Hughes (JM10) – 24.49. Next saw Matthew Channer (VM35-39) completing the run in 25.41, followed by: Gill Baxter (VW40-44) – who was another parkrun debutante in 26.13; Millicent Merifield (JW11-14) – another first-time performance of 26.52; Angela Hughes (VW45-49) brought back the Hughes family in 27.43 and Paula Walker (VW60-64) finished in 29.52.
Chiltern Harrier Cath Holloway has completed the legendary Dragon’s Back Race which follows the mountainous spine of Wales from Conwy Castle in the North to Carreg Cennen Castle in the South.
