The 6th running of the Shardeloes 10k saw ideal conditions for racing – cool, dry and much less humid than recent days. 274 runners completed the race, of which 46 (!) were Chiltern Harriers AC athletes. The sunshine came out in time for the prize presentations and the 1 mile family fun run, creating a great atmosphere for the 10k finishers to enjoy well-earned bacon sandwiches, provided by Amersham Cricket Club, or even a free sports massage from club member Tom Powell.
In the men’s race Nick Hughes of CHAC was triumphant, in a time of 36.39. Close behind him was David Hudson of BRJ Run & Tri in 36.48 and third place went to Richard Slade, a CHAC junior, in 38.50. Louise Durman (CHAC) came first out of the women in 42.23, joined by myself in second in 43.35 and Claire Pusey of Burnham Joggers in third in 44.08. Chiltern Harriers also took both the men’s and women’s team prizes (Nick Hughes, Richard Slade, George Gillingwater, Alistair Melville-Smith, Louise Durman, Ellie Bates and Susan Jarman), whilst the fun team prize went to Run Sunday (made up of Ben Hutchins, James Morgan, Stef King and Richard Lloyd).
Men’s age category winners were: V40-49 - Martin Bateman of Hillingdon AC; U20 – David Thomas of CHAC; V50-59 – Brian Dent; V60 – Richard Foskett of Herts Phoenix. Women’s age category winners: V35-45 – Fay Cripps of Chichester AC and V45-54 – Tracy Galbraith.
