Moving from the park to the track, Barbara Ralph took park in the Vets AC Track & Field Championships at Ewell on Saturday 29th August. Barbara did fantastically to take the silver medal in the W60 category in the 5000m, with a chip time of 22mins 47.54 secs.
In Kingston in Surrey David Howells ran in the Thames Meander Half Marathon Saturday 29th, which he completed in 1.54.18.
Last, but definitely by no means least, Jason Trimmer continued to show his endurance prowess, competing in the Ridgeway Trail Ultra, which took place Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th August. The event sees brave souls running the length of the Ridgeway long distance footpath from its eastern end at Ivinghoe Beacon west to Overton in Wiltshire, covering a total distance of 86 miles and some substantial climbs. Regular readers will recall that a team completed the same course as a relay in July (Jason was one of the participants in that event). Jason put in a stunning effort, to finish second in his age category, with a breath-taking time of 18 hours 47 minutes. This earned Jason the points that he needed to enter the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc next year. Jason ran the event in aid of the Oakley Waterman Foundation, a charity that provides respite breaks in the UK to children with life threatening illnesses. If you would like to support this really worthy cause, and help Jason to reach his £250.00 target, please sponsor him here: https://www.justgiving.com/jason-trimmer/
Jason’s wife and three boys – Carolyn, Jamie, Luke and Ethan – definitely also deserve a special mention for ‘crewing’ throughout the day. Jason and Carolyn are going to be participating in a marathon in Switzerland in a fortnight’s time.
