After promotion last year the club is up against some very strong clubs in Youth Development League - Southern Premier 2, and although sixth on the day, the team showed great maturity and competitive spirit, and many athletes came away with personal bests.

Finn Hobson made his club debut and made a great contribution, winning A string long jump with a PB of 5.63m. He was second in B string 200m and also helped with A string high jump. Rex Vidal made it a double win in long jump, topping the B string lists with 4.99m. Rex also helped with B string 100m. James Spicer took care of the A string sprints and javelin, and Saajan Jassy helped with hurdles, discus and shot. Newcomer Lewis Fee did well in A string shot and discus, and recorded a PB in non-scoring 100m of 12.52. Nathan Hackley was in PB shape in A string 800m with 2.10.3, as was Finn O’Brien with 2.19.7 in the B string. Finn also ran well in A string 300m. In the A string 1500m Louis Peterson added to the list of PBs with 4.35.9, but Woody Jackson was off his best time in the B string.
Tom Emery scored excellent points in B string hurdles, high jump and 300m. Laurie Gawne did well in non-scoring 800m as did Zach Rahaman in non-scoring 100m. Matt Aldred also ran non-scoring 800m and chipped in with B string javelin. The relay teams of Rex, Finn H, Saajan and James (4 x 100m); and Laurie, Lewis, Nathan and Matt (4 x 300m) look to have potential.
An inexperienced U15 girls team did well. In the 800m Jinaan Lockwood scored a season’s best 2.34.7, with Gabriella Nero in the B string running 2.43.7. These two also took care of 300m. There were PBs in the 1500m with Alice Brown (5.06.7) and Alicia Bushell (5.06.9) having a great battle to be third and second respectively in their strings. In the sprints Emily Gillespie and Isabelle Nero ran well against top class opposition. Jess Cook scored well in hurdles, high jump and shot (PB of 7.08m). In the throws Caitlin Gregory and Lily Gregory scored well, and Carys Arnold pitched in with high jump. The relay teams consisted of Emily, Gabriella, Isabelle, and Jess (4 x 100m) and Jinaan, Alice, Alicia, and Carys (4 x 300m).
A team almost entirely consisting of first years punched above their weight with the highlight an excellently judged 1500m A string win for Leon Doran in a PB of 5.00.6. In the B string Max Baxter also scored a PB to be third in 5.04.9. In the 800m Jamie Powell (2.31.4) and Alfie Clifford (2.40.9) also ran PBs. The sprints were looked after by John Broadis, Isaac Jessop-Tranter and Charlie Ventress. John also threw well in javelin and Charlie helped with high jump. Noah Hobson made his debut in shot and long jump, and Matty Gillespie took care of hurdles and high jump. The 4 x 100m relay team of Matty, John, Isaac and Charlie ran well.
The U13 Girls have a well-balanced look about them and scored useful points. Jemma Thomson continued her good early season with 10.7 in 75m, a PB of 21.0 in 150m, and 3.89m in long jump. Gabi Riley ran a PB of 12.5 in hurdles and helped with high jump and shot. Lesedi Nkoane scored a PB of 4.01.6 to be second in A string 1200m and helped out with B string 150m. Ella Botha was second in B string 1200m with a PB of 4.13.3. Rosa Williams was second in A string 800m in a PB of 2.38.0 and Marea Logan also PB’d in the B string with 2.43.5. Roxy McLellan helped with B string long jump, hurdles and non-scoring 800m (PB of 2.45.5). Maddie Hughes had a busy day with high jump, javelin and shot and Ellie Shield contributed with javelin and non scoring 800m (PB of 2.47.7). The 4 x 100m relay team consisted of Jemma, Marea, Roxy and Ella.
