We’ll kick things off in the traditional way with parkrun. There were first place finishes for Ali Young (18.58 at Ricky) and Sylvia Moss (23.18 at South Oxhey), as well as an all-time parkrun PB for Max Baxter (18.34 at Ricky) on Saturday 16 February. We also saw a number of course PBs yesterday: Henrik Hartmann, Eleanor Shield and Charlotte Docwra (22.07, 23.54 and 25.33 at Tring); and Richard Moss (20.20 at South Oxhey). And finally, there was a host of parkrun debuts: James Malin (28.20 at Ricky); and Oakley Denison, Euan Pinder and Archie Pinder (20.38, 20.49 and 22.26 at Tring – fabulous times for such a tough course!)
Today, Sunday 17 February, there was a strong turn-out at the 26thannual Hardwick X-Stream. No less than 10 Harriers, plus honorary one in the form of Neil Brown, completed the 6 mile cross-country course and four stream crossings. I was chuffed to be first lady home in 41.13. Neil completed Team Bates in 41.28. Dave Williams was next home (despite going for a swim in the second stream) in a time of 44.27, matched in time by Mike Worsfold, and followed by: Glen Martin (47.28); David Saul (53.22); Miriam Kempson (56.02); Trevor Brawn (58.15); Rash Wanninayake (1.00.21) and Ian Turner (1.14.33).
In a very different event, Mike Turney and Laura Richards both completed the Bramley 20 mile road race, in excellent times of 2.23.04 (!) and 3.07.56.
