Chiltern Harriers athletes from Year 5 to Year 13 were taking part for their schools at this event which acts as the selection race for the English Schools Championships in Leeds in March (Years 8-13) and the Primary Schools/Year 7 Championships in Leicestershire later that month.
RESULTS ON BUCKS SCHOOLS WEBSITE
The Year 5/6 boys race saw good runs from Alex Hughes (3rd), Gabriel Strutton-Smith (4th), Danny Carruthers (5th), Zachary Cleary (12th), George Fotherby (13th) and Rory Hilton (28th). Zachary was third Year 5 boy.
The Year 7 Girls race was over 2000m (short for those experienced in U13 3k races), and featured Frankie Baxter taking a good win with Lesedi Nkoane second. Marea Logan made it a Chiltern 1-2-3 in bronze medal position. (109 completed the course.)
Chiltern’s Year 7s are strong this year and eight featured in the top twelve of this high standard race. Alden Collier continued his good recent form to take the win on the same 2k circuit as the girls. Also well up were in-form Isaac Jessop-Tranter (3rd), Euan Pinder (5th), Max Baxter (6th), Ethan McCall (7th), Rowan Gawne (8th), Archie Pinder (9th), and Alfie Clifford (11th). There were 94 in the field.
The Junior (Year 8 and 9) Girls ran 3100m, short for any Year 9 girls in the race used to 4k. Abbie Henderson took an expected win with Holly Henderson close behind in second. Further good efforts came from Alice Brown (4th), Maddie Hughes (6th), Hannah Ashby (8th), Rosa Williams (11th), Tia Lomas (15th) and Ellie Shield (16th) – 115 completed the race. Multi-eventer Gabi Riley had a rare cross-country outing to be 42nd and Charlotte Docwra was 54th.
The Junior Boys, however, took on a tough 4000m circuit which featured four big climbs. First year Thomas Redmond won this one on a course well-suited to him and Cormac Nisbet was second. Despite recent injury Matt Aldred had a good run to be fourth. Putting in good shifts were Oakley Denson (9th), Laurie Gawne (11th) and Angus Stoneham (16th). Also competing well were Nathan Sweeney (24th), Sammy Bennetts (31st), Jacob Moore (32nd), Jamie Shepherd (43rd), and Jamie Powell (47th).
Intermediate Girls (Years 10 and 11) and Senior Girls (Years 12 and 13) were combined to race on the same circuit as the Junior Boys. This made for an interesting race with several girls running that don’t normally race against each other. Orla Williams ran well to be second in the Inters race and third overall, and Alicia Bushell also ran well for third Inter (fifth overall). Elsewhere in the Inters Katie Repper was sixth, Jinaan Lockwood (12th), Ella Watson (24th), Francesca Luker (25th), and Sammi Grice (26th). Soraya Lockwood was eighth Senior.
The Intermediate Boys and Senior Boys also competed together, but over a very tough 5.6k route, including six climbs. Inter Angus Williams took an excellent overall win, pushing up the final hill away from three seniors. Also in the Inters – Alex Aldred was fifth, Alex Johnson seventh, Louis Peterson ninth, Finn O’Brien (10th), Luke Martin (11th), James Watson (13th), Matt Clifford (20th), Jamie Carruthers (26th), and Zach Rahaman (59th) Ben Jackson struggled with a twisted ankle. Tommy Davies was seventh Senior boy.
