Currently, 11 athletes have qualified and a further 17 can still qualify, most of them only having to compete at Pednor.
In the senior men’s category, Aran Davidson has qualified and is currently way out front. However 2nd place is tied between Andy Wiseall, Ben Heatherington and Dave Howells. Dave has qualified, while Andy and Ben would need to complete Pednor to qualify. Neil Bates should qualify if he completes either of the remaining races and is currently in 5th place. Jonny Stoddern is in 6th place and should qualify if he completes Pednor.
Unlike the Senior Men, the Senior Ladies is a close call with Ellie Bates and Katie Royals currently (taking their two best scores) tied on the same points. Katie has already qualified and has a points score of 6 across the 4 races. Will Ellie manage to complete XNRG and Pednor and collect no less than 4 points in order to clinch the title?
The V40 category has three athletes qualified already, who also currently hold the top three places. Andy Hickman looks set to be our champion this year, followed by Paul McCarthy and Mike Worsfold. Matt Channer, Simon Conway and Matt Lawrence could still qualify if they complete Pednor, with Matt Channer is still in contention for a medal if the results go his way.
Only two athletes in the V50 look like they will qualify. Mike “Tiny” Turney looks set to retain his title, assuming he completes Pednor and finishes no less than 4th Chiltern V50. Mike currently has 3 points, while in 2nd place and already qualified is David Saul who has 7 points.
It’s good to see this year that we could have some V60 and V70 men qualify. Should Patrick Ahern (V60), Rik Edwards (V60), Robert Gill (V70) and David Walker (V70) compete at Pednor they will qualify and take a medal.
Three V35 ladies look set to qualify this year. Tamsin Finch has already qualified and earned herself 6 points. Although Beth Lang is hot on her heals with 5 points. Will she be Chiltern’s first V35 lady at Pednor to be joint champion? Rash Wanninayake can take the bronze medal if she completes Pednor.
Last, but by no means least, the V45 ladies. Miriam Kempson looks like she could improve on last year’s silver to take the gold, currently with a qualifying score of 4. Katherine Day and Harriet Lemon are tied for silver currently with 8 points. However, Cath Holloway can qualify by completing either XNRG or Pednor and could claim joint winner with Miriam if she is first Chiltern V45. Fiona Williams can still qualify too if she completes Pednor.
Good luck to all athletes.
