There were some excellent performances from Chiltern Harriers youngsters at the Lee Valley Open Meeting on Saturday April 6th. In gusty conditions some sprinters logged huge PBs, however some with a strong following wind.
Rhys Arnold got his outdoor season going with 1.65m, and second place, in the U17 men’s high jump. Fellow U17 Lewis Fee won his 100m heat in a big PB of 12.02 but with a 3.8m/sec wind assistance. Lily Holt ran a strong 12.31 in her first 80m hurdles of the season and recorded a season’s best 4.79m in long jump.
New recruit Chisom Nwafor continued her excellent early season form with a great 12.82 in 100m, assisted by a 3m/sec wind. Serena Gueye logged a legal 13.04 in her 100m heat. Chisom went on to win the age group high jump with 1.50m. Gabi Riley logged a 75m hurdles PB of 13.75 and had a solid long jump of 3.88m. Ella Botha (2.35.76) and Annabelle Hilton (2.55.08) both had good 800m races. Adam Winstanley ran a huge 200m PB of 24.19 (3m/sec wind) to log the fastest U15 time of the day. John Nickless ran an 800m PB of 2.37.05.
Holly Davies ran a 100m PB of 15.75 and a 200m PB of 33.03. Elizabeth Nickless ran an 800m PB of 3.05.61 and Rory Hilton ran an encouraging first 800m in 2.44.49.
Watford Minors Meeting April 7th
A grey and chilly morning saw several of Chiltern’s youngest athletes at the informal Watford Minors meeting.
In the U11 Girls Ellie Danner ran 13.3 (80m) and 2.07.1 (600m). Amber Bolton with 14.0 and 2.27.1 and Anna Goldstein with 15.9 and 2.33.8 also gained great experience.
The U11 Boys saw Felix Danielli win both 80m (13.0) and 600m (1.59.8) and also do well in the cricket ball throw (25.98m). Also showing good form in his first track meeting, was Charlie Quantrill. Charlie ran 14.0 (80m) , 2.08.9 (600m), and 15.1 in 60m hurdles. Oscar Gregory ran 14.4 (80m) and 2.20.9 (600m). Sola Ogundipe ran 16.0 for 60m hurdles and 13.8 for 80m.
The U13 girls did well. Izzy Martin continued her sprinting progress with 15.4 in 100m. Marea Logan ran 16.40, and Savarnah Pandya 17.0. In the 600m there were PB s for all three girls – Marea won the race in an impressive 2.37.6, Izzy logged 2.52.1 and Savarnah 2.54.0. Savarnah also coped well in 70m hurdles with 16.7. Keri Ogundipe ran 17.5 for 100m.
Windsor Spring Open Meeting April 7th
Some of Chiltern Harriers sprinters tackled the Windsor Sough Eton and Hounslow Spring Open on Sunday. On a cold day and against a headwind, good times were tough to come by but the Chiltern contingent recorded some excellent performances.
James Spicer had his first outdoor race as an Under 17 and won his 100m heat in an impressive 11.93. U17 Charlotte Rigby got her outdoor season going with 13.73 in her 100m heat. Fellow U17 Tara Offside logged two PBs with 13.88 (100m) and 28.35 (200m).
In the U15s Jemma Thomson was slightly down on her recently set bests but still managed strong times of 13.83 (100m) and 27.83 (200m). Oliver Spicer (U13) made his debut with 15.55 (100m) and 32.13 (200m) and Charlotte Grosse (U11) started her season with 12.73 (75m) and 3.05.91 (800m).
