A warm early evening saw 200m races, and John Broadis (29.23) and Charlie Ventress (30.13) continued their good progress. The rest of the evening was given over to 800m and a record 37 Chiltern athletes took part
First year U13 Gabriel Strutton-Smith made an excellent debut winning race 1 in an impressive 2.32.53.
U13 Leon Doran was second in a new PB of 2.29.70 and first year U13 girl Olivia Clarke ran very well for 2.41.41. U15 Ellie Shield ran just outside her PB with 2.44.92.
U13 Marea Logan was just outside PB territory in 2.38.00. First year U13s Danny Carruthers (2.41.00), Alex Hughes (2.41.02) and Lily Jessop-Tranter (2.47.18) all made good debuts.
There was a huge PB for U15 Thomas Askey who won Race 4 with 2.24.06. U13 Isaac Jessop-Tranter was second in a PB of 2.28.61. A Chiltern-heavy race saw U13s Archie Pinder (2.34.99 PB), Rowan Gawne (2.35.46) and Alfie Clifford (2.36.05 PB) all run well. There were also good efforts from U15 girls Maddie Hughes (2.38.49 PB) and Rosa Williams (2.39.70).
There were good efforts from U13 Lesedi Nkoane (2.32.67), U20 Soraya Lockwood (2.33.22) and U17 Jinaan Lockwood (2.40.06) in Race 5.
Race 6 saw a stunning run from U13 Frankie Baxter to win in a big PB of 2.23.53. This puts Frankie second in the national rankings. There was also a PB for U15 Ella Botha in 2.29.76 in this one. U13 boys Max Baxter (2.30.26 PB) and Euan Pinder (2.34.94) also did well.
U15 Alice Brown ran excellently to run a PB of 2.26.43 to be third.
U20 Lizzie Barraclough showed it’s never too late to run a PB, taking two seconds off her previous best with 2.22.99. U15 Holly Henderson was also in PB form with 2.24.18.
Abbie Henderson (U15) battled hard to record a new best of 2.22.27.
U15 Laurie Gawne ran a new three-second PB of 2.20.02.
Another highlight of the evening saw U17 Orla Williams run a four-second PB with 2.17.57.
Yet another PB came from U15 Matt Aldred who faded after some bold front running to log 2.15.40. U17 Luke Martin ran a huge PB of 2.18.62.
U17 Matt Clifford took his PB down to 2.14.56 and U17 Charlie Stone was close behind in a PB of 2.15.49.
U17 Ben Jackson also ran a PB of 2.14.70 in this one.
The business end of the evening saw times go under two minutes. U17 Alex Johnson ran a searing first lap of 55, but held on to win and log a PB of 1.58.32.
Fellow U17 Alex Aldred also blitzed lap one and recorded a great time of 1.58.92.
U20s Cam Reid and Harry Cox were in a race that started steady but built up and both finished well with times of 1.56.30 and 1.57.05 respectively.
In total 37 ran 800m and 27 ran PBs so an excellent evening’s work by the Chiltern youngsters.
